FAQ

Maintaining the Jewellery

You actually dont have to do anything, because the oils from your skin, make the tyres smooth and shiny.
In case you have a special night out, and you want the jewellery to make more impression, then :

Be gentil when using sharp objects or chemical
cosmetics. No perfume or alcohol on the tyre itself.
Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
For extra shine, use a little lip balm. (do not use shoe wax)
Keep away from heat, like hot showers (Sauna).
Do not use if allergic to Latex or Butyl.

ReBlack Advice

We pick them up from my mechanic (Detlef Second Hand Motorrad Teile Berlin). If he does not have enough, i look around Berlin.
((Links to the workshops will be added))
Then we take them home and cut them open. We brush off the talkum inside and put them in the washing machine to wash them, twice.
Then we soak them in soap and hot water for half an hour. Then we rinse them and brush them again with vinegar. Vinigar also helps to protect your skin and keep your pH level on point.

Each peace is then carefully hand-cut with love.

For your safety, here is some information about what tyres and tubes are made of.

If you are allergic to latex, there may be some in the inner tube.
As the tyres come from all over the world, we cannot say for sure what is in them.

In my experience I have never had a reaction.

I also try to find only stainless steel or brass metals. This way each peace should be of high quality without nickel.
(I can only trust what my suppliers say)

InnerTube (all Jewellery is made from it)

A bicycle inner tube is usually made of butyl rubber. Butyl is a very elastic and at the same time airtight synthetic rubber. As with tyres, however, other additives are necessary for the rubber compound. The rubber compound used can result in significant differences in quality. Thanks to their high elasticity, an inner tube covers a wide range of different tyre sizes.
A distinction is made between mould-heated and autoclave-heated inner tubes. Vulcanisation in a mould results in more uniform wall thicknesses and therefore lower weights and significantly better air retention. This is why autoclave-heated hoses, which are easier to manufacture, have become increasingly rare in recent years.

Tyres (Mostly Belts are made by them)

A bicycle tyre consists of three basic elements: carcass, bead core and rubber tread. Almost all Schwalbe tyres also have a puncture protection belt.

The tyre core determines the tyre diameter and ensures a secure fit on the rim. As a rule, the tyre core consists of a wire bundle. In folding tyres, a ring of aramid fibres is used instead of the wire.
The carcass is the "framework" of the tyre. The textile fabric is coated with rubber on both sides and cut at a 45 degree angle. This angle to the running direction allows the carcass to give the future tyre the necessary stability. All Schwalbe carcasses are made of polyamide (nylon). Depending on the quality level of the tyres, the carcass materials are woven with different densities.

The rubber compound of a tyre consists of several components:
Natural and synthetic rubber

Fillers, e.g. carbon black or silica/silica
Plasticisers, e.g. oils, greases
Anti-ageing agents
Vulcanising agents, e.g. sulphur
Vulcanisation accelerators, e.g. zinc oxide
Pigments, dyes
Depending on the rubber compound, the rubber accounts for 40-60%. The fillers make up between 15-30% and the remaining components approx. 20-35%.

Almost all Schwalbe tyres have a puncture protection belt. We only deliberately do without it on special lightweight and sports tyres. Even our standard tyres have an effective puncture protection belt made of natural rubber and reinforced with Kevlar® fibres (K-Guard). In the Marathon tyres, the 3 mm thick GreenGuard ensures the well-known high puncture protection.

In addition, our top tyres have particularly effective puncture protection systems that are specially adapted to the respective requirements, e.g. RaceGuard, V-Guard or SmartGuard.
